Body Changes During Puberty

The teen years are filled with many changes both to you physically, mentally, emotionally and socially. Normal changes in the body include:

  • the appearance of body hair,

  • skin changes such as pimples or acne,

  • increase in height and weight,

  • the growth of breasts, and

  • the arrival of your period known as menstruation.

Girls usually begin to experience these pubertal changes much earlier than boys. During all these drastic and rapid changes, some girls might view themselves as awkward or feel embarrassed about these changes. Your breasts may be growing “too fast” or “too slow” for your liking. It is normal for you to feel some degree of physical dissatisfaction during this time of change.
